Dr. Jakob Stillmark
Composer and Artistic Researcher
Dr. Jakob Stillmark is a composer and artistic researcher whose
work bridges composition, music theory, and philosophy. His
research centers on innovative approaches to polyphony and their
relationship to contemplative practice.
Following initial studies with Ernst August Klötzke, Stillmark
completed his composition studies with Isabel Mundry at the
University of Music and Performing Arts Munich and has worked as
a freelance composer since then. He holds an artistic scientific
doctorate in composition, completed under the guidance of Isabel
Mundry and Dr. Jörn Peter Hiekel.
Through participating in numerous international master classes, he
has received further formative guidance from distinguished
composers including Marco Momi, Michael Jarrel, Fabien Lévy,
Mauro Lanza, and Toshio Hosokawa.
Stillmark's compositions have been performed at prestigious
venues and festivals internationally, including the chamber music
series of the Munich Philharmonic, Mozartfest Würzburg, Shanghai
Academy of Music, Central Conservatory of Music Beijing, SONify!
Festival, aDevantgarde Festival, and Weimarer Frühjahrstage für
Neue Musik. He has collaborated with renowned ensembles such
as Trio Abstrakt, Divertimento Ensemble, MotoContrario Ensemble,
Tacet(i) Ensemble, Kebyart Quartet, Duo Helbig-Wangler, Deutsche
Radiophilharmonie, and Munich Chamber Orchestra.
Active in contemporary discourse, Stillmark regularly presents at
conferences on Artistic Research and Contemplative Studies. His
work has been supported by the Bavarian Ministry of Science and
the Arts through a residency at the Cité Internationale des Arts in
Paris as well as by the Friedrich Ebert Foundation.
